Will Sneakers Soon be Replaced By This Shoe Trend?

There’s no question that the fashion sneaker (and athleisure as a whole) has been the biggest trend of the street style world for quite some time now. Well, it looks like some are starting to tire of the I-woke-up-like-this aesthetic and are ready to opt for something more polished. According to Women’s Wear Daily, athletic designs are on the decline. As Net-a-Porter’s Retail Fashion Director, Lisa Aiken, told WWD, athleticism appears to be declining in favor industry-wide. “I would say there is definitely a general shift, particularly in the shoe world, away from the more casual mood that has dominated in recent seasons. The ubiquity of the sneaker is starting to wane,” Aiken explained.

What are the fashion elite moving toward to take its place? A French-girl classic, of course. We’re talking about the ballet flat. First, everyone obsessed over Miu Miu’s lace-up iteration, but many designers and fast-fashion retailers alike have since taken up a similar style as well, and we’re totally here for it. From powerful options for work to pairs that feel just as fancy as heels, there’s a little bit of something for everyone out there, especially as the market for them continues to grow. Trust us on this one when we say this is THE footwear trend you want to get on board with in 2017.
