Venkatesh Prasad resigned from the post of Chairman of the Indian Cricket team’s junior selection committee, said Board for Cricket Control in India (BCCI) on Friday.
Talking to ANI over phone, acting BCCI President C.K. Khanna said, “Venkatesh Prasad has resigned as Chairman of Junior Selection Committee.” . Venkatesh Prasad has resigned less than a month after India won the U-19 World Cup.
Prasad had done a good job over the past 30 months in looking to scout promising youngsters to blood them into the system. Hence BCCI was keen to retain him and according to CK Khanna, had urged him several times to reconsider his decision. However Prasad refused to budge. A TOI report quotes Venkatesh Prasad as saying that he has resigned to avoid potential conflict of interest. Former pacer said that he is considering coaching proposal but refused to reveal further. It is likely that Prasad will take up assignment with any of the IPL teams as a bowling coach. Prasad has earlier worked as bowling coach of RCB and CSK in IPL.
Looking back at his time as selector of the junior team, Prasad said, “It was a huge challenge but an exciting one. I love travelling and have logged thousands of miles across the country. It wasn’t easy watching so many matches where the key was to be alert and observant. We had to assess players on a lot of factors and I couldn’t afford to be lax.”
