At 98 years old, Tao Porchon-Lynch is the world’s oldest yoga teacher and the star of Athleta’s latest “Power of She” campaign. The brand aims to promote female empowerment so that women can realize their limitless potential by featuring women in the health and wellness space.
At the age of 8, Porchon-Lynch discovered yoga but was told it wasn’t ladylike. However, her powerful poses prove otherwise and also show that fitness has no age limits. “Nothing’s impossible,” she maintains. “When you wake up every morning, say: ‘This is going to be the best day of my life,’ and it will be.” The yogi has been teaching for over 75 years and travels the world with Dr. Terri Kennedy, a yoga and meditation teacher, in hopes of inspiring others through her practice. And if you think Porchon-Lynch will motivate you to be your best self, just wait until you check out the other women representing Athleta: a group of women who run to support mothers, a photographer who captures young girls’ confidence through photos, and a community of parents and children with Down syndrome who use yoga to discover their potential.
