Mumbai: At least eight persons were injured when a section of an under-construction overhead Metro bridge collapsed on Andheri-Kurla Road in suburban Marol on Tuesday, fire officials said. The slab is said to be of about 50 metres.
As per initial reports, one person is feared to be dead in the incident.
The injured were rushed to nearby Seven Hills Hospital. Meanwhile, many more are feared to be trapped the debris. The road leading to the accident site is said to be traffic heavy making it difficult for rescue workers to reach the spot.
Two fire engines and an ambulance have been rushed to the spot, sources said, adding cranes and other heavy machinery have been moved in to clear the debris.
The collapsed bridge is part of the much-delayed 12-km Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar corridor of the Mumbai Metro.
Mumbai has been witnessing heavy rains for the past couple of days.
