Infosys appoints U B Pravin Rao as Interim-Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer

In a major development, Vishal Sikka on Friday resigned as Managing Director (MD) and CEO of the IT-giant Infosys.

Sikka has now been appointed as executive vice-chairman. UB Pravin Rao has been appointed as interim MD and CEO with immediate effect.

The development comes amid high profile exits from the company.

“…The board of directors of Infosys Limited has at its meeting today accepted the resignation of Dr Vishal Sikka as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the company with immediate effect,” the IT firm said in a BSE filing.

Infosys has been battling both internal and external challenges in terms of uncertain global economic environment and high-profile founders flagging concerns around alleged corporate governance lapses at the company.

In the last few months, the country’s second largest software firm, has seen a number of senior-level executives resigning. They include Anirban Dey (Global head and chief business officer of Edge products), Yusuf Bashir (MD, Infosys Innovation Fund) and Ritika Suri (executive vice-president).

In January 2017, cautioning Infosys employees that the road ahead is long and not easy, Sikka has stressed the importance of automation and warned against ‘lackadaisical’ attitude towards greater value creation.

Sikka took over as CEO and Managing Director of the country’s second largest IT firm in August 2014.In February, 2016, his tenure was extended by nearly two years till March 2021, saying his initiatives have helped the company move towards reclaiming its industry leadership position.
