Narendra Modi to persuade Suzuki bosses to shift to Gujarat

New Delhi: At a time when Maruti Suzuki’s Manesar plant is passing through rough weather owing to worker-management clashes, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi seems confident of convincing the car giant’s bosses to shift focus to Gujarat.

As per media reports, Modi, who is leaving for Japan this Sunday, is slated to meet Shinzo Nakanishi, managing director of Maruti Suzuki and Osamu Suzuki, chairman of Suzuki Motor Corporation to pitch for his state as the company’s next destination.

Modi’s visit is aimed at convincing Suzuki Motor Corporation honchos to substantially scale production at its Gujarat plant from the existing 250,000 cars every year, as the company is continuously facing labour unrest at the factory plant in Manesar, Haryana.

According to reports, Maruti is likely to invest Rs 4,000 crore in the first phase of the project to set up the new manufacturing facility spread across 700 acres near Mehsana in Gujarat.
