Bihar girl bags Rs10m package from Google

Patna: A girl from Bihar who describes former Indian President late APJ Abdul Kalam as her role model has got an annual salary package of Rs10 million (Dh561,800) from Google. She will be joining Google’s office in Switzerland.

Madhumita Sharma, who hails from a suburb in Patna, had to clear seven rounds of interviews to join Google.

She has been appointed to the post of Technical Solutions Engineer — her dream job and in her dream location.

“I got offers from big companies like Amazon, Microsoft and Mercedes but my ultimate goal was to join Google. Now my dream has come true,” said a beaming Madhumita whose father is a Railway Protection Force’s assistant security commissioner.

According to her, it is a general belief that only the students doing engineering study from reputed institutions are selected by Google. “But I have proved this notion wrong. I completed my study from an engineering institute from pink city Jaipur in Rajasthan which is not so reputed yet I achieved my goal due to sheer grit and dedication,” she told the media.

She spent six-seven months preparing for her interviews which lasted for some three months and were taken at various locations, such as Bangalore, Sydney, Singapore and Switzerland. She cites former President Abdul Kalam as her role model.

“Whenever I talked about joining Google, my friends would discourage me. They said it is not an easy job for a girl like me but I never allowed my dream to die and ultimately achieved the goal,” she said.

Madhumita who hails from a middle class family passed her Grade 12 examination from DAV, Khagaul in Patna and completed her Bachelor in Technology (BTec) in Computer Science from Arya College of Engineering, Jaipur.

She is the second girl who has done her state proud through by securing top jobs in recent history. Last year, Medha Kumari , a girl from a Bihar’s faraway district Madhubani, had bagged an annul package of Rs3.95 million from Adobe Systems India Private Limited.

Nearly 40 students had taken the online test which was conducted by Adobe but only Medha cleared all rounds and finally got the job with a whopping package. Medha who is daughter of a small trader completed her engineering study in computer science from National Institute of Technology, Patna.
